What is a Korikori session?
Not your ordinary group fitness class but you can count on 45-60mins of fun & full self-expression! Prepare to let your hair down! You can expect to get a taste of the following in a korikori class:

  • Te Ha – Breathwork, fundamental to daily life;
  • Nga Nekehanga – Movement inspired by a variety of Maori & Pasifika performing & martial arts disciplines that show how to ‘get down’ with land, sea & sky. From the beauty & grace of the taha wahine to the strength & pride of the taha tane. We mix it up with fitness principles so you get a ‘workout’ too;
  • Puoro – Contemporary Maori & Pasifika music, plus a bit of rhythm work; and
  • Reo – Maori & Pasifika language and vocal expression. This is often the freakiest part to begin with, but it's not long before this is a favourite. It's a buzz all right!

Who can come to Korikori?
Korikori is a whanau programme. All are welcome – we encourage it! We’ve worked with all ages - tamariki to kaumatua, and not just Maori or Pasifika peoples – Pakeha, Asian & other peoples get heaps out of taking part too. It’s a good way to get a personal insight into Te Ao Maori & celebrate being of this land and this corner of the world!We’d recommend if you’re new to exercise (or if it’s a long lost friend) to take it easy on your tinana. Let us know if you have any ‘conditions’ or injuries that we can look out for. Don’t let them be your excuse. Nau mai haere mai!
